A large part of Digital Marketing revolves around social media marketing. Irrespective of the fact as to whether it is a B2C firm or a B2B firm, social media is something which seamlessly integrates into the campaign as well as organic traffic optimisation requirements.

For those who have even the remotest of the clue as to what digital marketing trends are and how does the entire digital marketing experience works, one must have noticed that some of the best backlinks and quality traffic are generated through the social media handles alone.

However, acing the entire social media marketing thing isn’t as easy given the multiple filters involved and the complexity of understanding what would the audience want and then what would finally click with the right people so that our purpose of driving quality traffic or lead generation gets solved.

In this blog, we will discuss a few critical things which social media marketing companies should keep in mind in order to excel at their work.

Know your Audience

A very cliched thing to say and yet we have seen how even the most experienced ones tend to falter here. And faltering at gauging the audience right isn’t surprising.

This is because not all of us have enough money to go about with detailed audience surveys or in-person interviews or focus groups. But, we also need to realise that in the Age of the Internet, we really do not have any dearth of data. We just have to find the right data set.

Hence, before anyone decides on any of the campaigns or even the content calendar, make sure that detailed research is done and a detailed psychographic and demographic profile of the audience type is put on paper.

From there, one needs to go reverse and zero in on what could probably be the likes and dislikes of such a person and what would they be interested in.

Choose your platform wisely

A lot of people randomly choose the advertising platform with the reasoning being- “everyone is doing it”. However, that isn’t a correct approach to take. Rather, understand what kind of business you are in and what kind of people would be eventually buying your product or engaging with your service.

Once that is established only then should be the platform finalised. Also, always keep in mind that social media marketing isn’t about just getting leads. It is about generating quality leads!

So, while Google works perfectly for a B2C lead generation campaign, the optimisation wouldn’t be as much for a B2B IT firm and maybe they should look at LinkedIn and Quora instead.

Choose the correct filters

This is about the audience and makes more sense as a natural extension of point number one. Once the audience has been defined, no matter what platform you choose, you will have to identify and finalise the traits or interest areas or activities they could engage in in order to target the right set of people.

Make sure that the options you choose are in sync with your audience definition. You may even list down the probable options and then go back and compare and validate it with adequate research.

Please understand that the right targeting in social media marketing is actually more than halfway to a good campaign result.

Consistency Matters-Paid promotions over time

Now this one is a hack you should definitely try out. Spending a large chunk of money for a limited number of days does not yield many results but a moderate amount of money spread over a larger period of time does.

Hence, whenever you are going for social media marketing, always look out at the tentative reach that the campaign manager shows. It isn’t totally accurate but it gives an idea good enough!

Social Media to Use

Keep reading and keep yourself abreast about the algorithmic changes that the social media handles go through. For instance, Facebook was once all about text, then it started giving more weight to images and now it is videos.

Same with Google Display network too which provides an outlet to advertise on partner sites too! Hence, always make sure that your budgetary allocation or even organic posts are more in tandem with the prevalent media.

Keep Track of your ROIs

Do it daily- literally every day you should keep a tab on the kind of reach and engagement your post is getting and analyse it critically! One needs to understand that while reports do look like a nausea-inducing bunch of numbers, they actually have a lot of hidden insights. So, always keep track of whatever you are doing, whatever you are spending and what is coming out of it.

While we could have suggested a few courses which you could have taken and worked on, yet we thought that it would be better if we suggested the few hacks which actually makes all the difference.

Do use these in your daily SMM and we would love to know how well these worked for you.

It is also possible that you may be just beginning with social media management and hence might not feel as confident about the operations.

Our suggestion would thus be to engage with a good social media marketing company which will guide you through the process. The engagement with such a social media management firm will give you an added advantage of the experience of multiple professionals bundled into one and would thus help you with not just strategizing well but also an effective execution.
